A Note From Amanda
Dear On Point Community,
As I reflect on my nearly 25-year journey teaching and studying movement, and especially on this past year, my heart is full of gratitude—not just for where I am today, but for the path that led me here. This past year has been one of growth, learning, and personal transformation. One of the most profound parts of my journey has been as a student of the Polestar Pilates Comprehensive Certification Program. This has truly been an amazing experience, allowing me to fall deeper in love with the Pilates method, develop a stronger connection with my own body, and embrace the continuous evolution of movement and healing. It has been a process of letting go of old teachings and rethinking how I approach movement, while also celebrating everything my body can do. I am so grateful for the opportunity to continue learning, not just for myself, but so I can better serve all of you with the best, evidence-based information available.
When I look back 15 years ago, I remember a time when even the simplest tasks were insurmountable. I struggled with symptoms that made daily life difficult—cold fingers, weakness in my arms, and constant dropping of things. As a single mom, caretaker for my grandma, student, and full-time employee working as a Physical Therapy Aide and Personal Trainer, I carried a heavy load. But through it all, I kept advocating for my body, trusting that there had to be answers.
I eventually found the right diagnosis after being dismissed by a neurologist who thought my symptoms were “in my head.” I responded, “I better be kinetically aware, I’m a dancer and teach movement for a living.” After further testing, I was diagnosed with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS), a condition where my brachial plexus and artery cut off circulation, causing numbness, tingling, and weakness when lifting my arm past shoulder level. This diagnosis, though a relief in some ways, was just the beginning of my journey. I later had successful surgeries to address ulnar nerve issues and carpal tunnel syndrome, with physical and occupational therapy guiding my recovery. But it wasn’t until I discovered the transformative power of fascia training and Pilates that I truly began to rebuild my life.
In 2016, I opened On Point Pilates Studio to share the tools and insights that helped me heal. Pilates became more than just a recovery tool—it became a practice of connection, of learning how to listen to my body and explore movement in ways that felt both freeing and healing. Over time, I’ve come to realize that Pilates isn’t just about exercise; it’s about reconnecting with your body, healing, and thriving. Every session brings new opportunities to move better, breathe deeper, and grow stronger.
Today, as a mom, wife, and movement specialist, I’m continually grateful for the opportunity to deepen my knowledge and share that with you. The On Point Pilates community means so much to me, and my greatest joy is helping each person meet their unique goals. Every body is different, every story is unique, and I am honored to walk alongside you in your own journeys toward healing and strength.
As I look ahead to the future, I’m excited to continue learning and growing with all of you. Thank you for being such a supportive and inspiring part of this community. Pilates gave me my life back, and now I have the privilege of helping others rediscover theirs. For that, I will always be thankful.
With deep gratitude,
Amanda Swift
